Obaji Development Foundation ODF has invited applications from suitably qualified Nigerian journalists for a five-day capacity-building workshop focused on countering disinformation and Foreign Influence and Manipulation of Information FIMI.
The residential workshop, scheduled to hold from Monday, October 5 to Friday, October 9, 2026, in Abuja, is designed to strengthen the capacity of Nigerian journalists to identify, analyse and counter disinformation campaigns while promoting ethical and fact-based journalism.
According to the foundation, the growing spread of disinformation and FIMI poses a major threat to media integrity and democratic processes across Africa. Nigeria, regarded as a major media hub in the region, has increasingly become a target of campaigns that exploit local vulnerabilities to spread divisive narratives and manipulate public opinion.
The five-day programme will bring together 30 Nigerian journalists for interactive training sessions, case studies and practical exercises aimed at developing their skills in disinformation detection, digital forensics and collaborative journalism.
ODF said the workshop would also expose participants to cutting-edge tools for detecting disinformation campaigns and deepen their understanding of strategies employed by threat actors, particularly in relation to Africa and Nigerian elections.
Other objectives of the workshop include promoting collaborative fact-checking and investigative journalism networks, as well as strengthening media literacy and public trust in Nigerian journalism.
The foundation said applicants must have at least two years of professional journalism experience and be working with a reputable print, electronic or online media organisation, or a fact-checking organisation, in Nigeria.
Applicants are also required to obtain the endorsement of their organisation’s Editor or Chief Executive and demonstrate a willingness to devote time to producing disinformation research and analysis after completing the training.
In addition, prospective participants must provide evidence of fact-checking content they have published within the last 12 months.
The ODF urged qualified journalists who meet the requirements to apply for the opportunity, which is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s media ecosystem and equipping journalists with the skills needed to respond effectively to emerging information threats.
