Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has received the 2026 Pillar of Integrity in Public Service Award from Verbatim Magazine in recognition of its commitment to ethics, transparency and accountability in public service.
The award was presented at the 2026 Verbatim Awards organised by Verbatim Print & Broadcast Limited in partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Abuja.
The NDIC’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mr. Thompson Oludare Sunday, was represented at the ceremony by the Head of Communication and Public Affairs, Ms. Hawwau Gambo, who received the award on behalf of the Corporation.
The recognition followed the NDIC’s emergence as second overall in the 2025 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS) conducted by the ICPC.
The EICS is an integrity-assessment framework designed to promote ethical standards, accountability and anti-corruption practices across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government. It assesses institutions in four key areas: management culture and structure, financial management systems, administrative systems, and anti-corruption initiatives.
Speaking at the ceremony, the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, represented by the Director of the Systems Study and Review Department, Mr. Olusegun Adigun, delivered a keynote address titled, “The Power of Integrity in National Development: Strengthening Public Institutions, Restoring Trust and Driving Prosperity.”
In her remarks, Gambo commended Verbatim Print & Broadcast Limited for recognising the Corporation’s performance based on the ICPC’s independently validated integrity scorecard.
She reaffirmed the NDIC’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of transparency, accountability and ethical governance in carrying out its statutory responsibilities.
According to her, the Corporation’s mandates include deposit guarantee, bank supervision in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), failure resolution and bank liquidation.
Gambo noted that the award reflected the Corporation’s sustained efforts to maintain stakeholder confidence through responsible and transparent service delivery.
The NDIC plays a key role in protecting depositors, promoting confidence in the banking sector and contributing to the stability of Nigeria’s financial system.
The recognition is expected to further encourage the Corporation to strengthen compliance, professionalism and institutional accountability while sustaining public trust in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities.
