Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc AEDC has intensified its digital transformation drive with the launch of its MyPower Mobile and Web Apps, providing customers with a single digital platform to access electricity services, manage accounts and report service challenges remotely.
The new platforms, launched as part of the company’s Customer Service Week activities, are designed to reduce the need for physical interactions with AEDC offices while giving customers greater control over their electricity accounts and service requests.
Through the MyPower platforms, customers can purchase electricity tokens, pay bills, report outages and other service issues, lodge and track complaints, and access bills and payment receipts.
The applications also allow users to monitor energy consumption, manage multiple accounts and meters, and update personal information without visiting an AEDC office.
A major feature of the new platforms is the staff verification function, which enables customers to verify the identity of AEDC personnel before granting them access to their premises, potentially strengthening security during field operations.
Speaking at the launch, AEDC Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Chijioke Z. Okwuokenye, FNSE, said the initiative was part of a broader effort to build a customer-focused and digitally enabled electricity distribution company.
“Our customers are at the heart of everything we do. As their needs and expectations evolve, we must evolve with them,” Okwuokenye said.
He said the applications would give customers greater control over how they interact with AEDC and access the services they require, adding that the company would continue to improve its service delivery channels.
The development comes at a time when digitalisation is becoming increasingly important to the electricity distribution business, particularly in areas such as customer complaints, payment collection, outage reporting and account management.
For AEDC, the digital platform creates an opportunity to consolidate several customer-facing functions within one ecosystem, potentially improving the speed with which service requests are received and processed.
The Chief Operating Officer of AEDC, Engr. Blessing Ogbe, FNSE, said the MyPower platforms were also designed around customer feedback.
“For us, this launch is another step in how we are redefining the way we serve our customers. We are building a culture where customer feedback informs how we design our processes, improve our channels and deliver our services,” Ogbe said.
She added that AEDC would continue to listen, learn and innovate as customer expectations evolve.
The MyPower initiative provides both mobile and web-based options. Customers who prefer mobile devices can use the MyPower Mobile App, while those who prefer computers or mobile browsers can access the Web App.
The company said both platforms would continue to evolve, with additional capabilities expected to be introduced as part of its digital customer-experience strategy.
The MyPower Mobile App is available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, while the Web App can be accessed through AEDC’s customer portal.
AEDC serves customers across the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Niger and Nasarawa states.
The company said its digital expansion forms part of the transformation programme that followed the May 2023 acquisition of a 60 per cent stake in AEDC by a Transcorp-led consortium, alongside efforts to upgrade substations, expand distribution networks and deploy technology to improve operational efficiency.
