TCN, Imcomtel inspects Katsina substation ahead of major installation

Transmission Company of NigeriaTCN and Imcomtel Engineering Limited have inspected the Katsina 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation ahead of the commencement of the next major installation phase of the project.
The joint inspection, conducted on Thursday, September 24, 2026, was led by the Assistant General Manager (Transmission), Katsina Sub-Region, Engr. Usman Idris, who received the Imcomtel delegation headed by Engr. Emmanuel Okafor.
The inspection focused on assessing the readiness of the project site, ongoing civil works, equipment locations and supporting infrastructure ahead of the installation of major electrical and control systems.
A key area of assessment was the location of two 100MVA power transformers delivered to the substation on July 9, 2026.
The transformers and their designated plinths were inspected as part of efforts to ensure that the site is adequately prepared for installation and commissioning activities.
According to TCN, the additional transformer capacity is expected to strengthen electricity transmission capability in Katsina State and contribute to improved power supply across the wider North-West region.
The team also inspected four newly delivered control rooms, assessing their readiness to accommodate critical protection, monitoring and control systems required for the safe and efficient operation of the substation.
The inspection provided an opportunity for TCN and Imcomtel to review outstanding technical requirements and coordinate final site preparations as the project advances toward completion.
The two organisations subsequently aligned on the necessary technical and logistical arrangements required to ensure a smooth transition into the next phase of installation.
The TCN inspection team included the Principal Manager, Engr. Mustapha Idowu, alongside Heads of Technical Departments.
The Katsina substation project forms part of the broader effort to strengthen Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure, increase available transformation capacity and improve the reliability of electricity delivery to consumers in the North-West.
