Association of Energy Correspondents, Abuja (AECAF), has congratulated Mr Abdulrazaq Isa, OFR, and Mr Bala Wunti on their appointments as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, respectively, of the World Energy Council Nigeria WEC Nigeria.
In a congratulatory letter signed on behalf of the association, AECAF described the appointments as significant to the development of Nigeria’s energy sector, while also congratulating members of the council’s inaugural board.
The association said the collective experience of the board members across the energy industry, regulatory institutions, finance, academia and professional associations would provide a strong foundation for the council’s operations in Nigeria.
AECAF commended Isa for his contributions to indigenous refining and industrial development, noting that his appointment reflected confidence in his leadership, entrepreneurial vision and commitment to advancing Nigeria’s energy aspirations.
The association also described Wunti as well suited for the position of Chief Executive Officer, citing his more than three decades of experience in the energy industry and expertise in strategy, policy formulation, revenue optimisation and sectoral reforms.
According to the association, Wunti’s integrity, experience and strategic leadership would contribute significantly to the growth of WEC Nigeria and the wider energy sector.
AECAF said Nigeria’s return to the World Energy Council was “timely and significant,” as it restored the country’s place within one of the world’s influential global energy networks.
The association noted that the membership would provide Nigeria with a platform to contribute to international discussions on energy security, affordability, sustainability and equitable energy transition.
It added that the development could help the country attract investment, deepen international partnerships, promote technological innovation and ensure that Nigeria’s and Africa’s priorities were adequately represented in global energy decisions.
AECAF also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the leadership and foresight that facilitated Nigeria’s return to the World Energy Council.
The association said the development demonstrated the administration’s commitment to repositioning Nigeria as a leading voice in the global energy community while creating an enabling environment for investment and sustainable growth.
Established in 2007, AECAF, with registration number 9456102, comprises editors and reporters covering Nigeria’s oil, gas and broader energy sectors in Abuja and the northern region.
The association said journalists covering the sector recognised the important role WEC Nigeria could play as the global energy industry navigates the energy transition and emerging geopolitical challenges.
It pledged to maintain a productive relationship with the World Energy Council Nigeria and continue supporting informed public dialogue on policies, investments and innovations needed to secure Nigeria’s energy future.
AECAF wished Isa, Wunti and the entire inaugural board wisdom, strength and success as they undertake what it described as a historic responsibility in service to Nigeria, Africa and the global energy community.
