Apapa Customs generates record N28.1bn revenue in single day

By Onu Okorie

Nigeria Customs Service NCS, Apapa Area Command, has recorded its highest-ever single-day revenue collection, generating ₦28.102 billion in 24 hours.
The Command said the feat was achieved on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, with the collection surpassing its previous daily record of ₦20.1 billion, recorded in September 2025, shortly after Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba assumed office as Customs Area Controller.
The latest milestone came barely weeks after the Command recorded an unprecedented ₦323 billion revenue collection in July 2026.
The Command attributed the sustained revenue growth to ongoing reforms, improved compliance, enhanced trade facilitation, intelligence-driven interventions and greater efficiency arising from digital Customs processes.
Speaking on the development, Oshoba said the record should not be viewed merely as a revenue figure, but as a contribution to the economic wellbeing of Nigerians.
According to him, revenue generated by the NCS forms part of government resources deployed to fund critical sectors, including infrastructure, security, education, healthcare and other public services.
He dedicated the achievement to the Federal Government and Nigerians, while commending the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the management of the Service for supporting modernisation, automation and reforms designed to make Customs operations more efficient, transparent and business-friendly.
Oshoba also praised compliant importers, exporters, licensed Customs agents and other stakeholders for their cooperation, as well as Nigerians who had provided actionable intelligence to the Service.
He stressed that every compliant transaction contributes to national development, urging stakeholders to continue supporting legitimate trade.
The Customs Area Controller said a stronger revenue base would provide government with greater capacity to respond to the needs of citizens and create a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
However, Oshoba cautioned officers and men of the Command against complacency, saying the new revenue record should be regarded as a responsibility to achieve more.
He directed personnel to ensure that revenue collection goes hand in hand with trade facilitation, professionalism, transparency and respect for stakeholders.
He also charged officers to resolve legitimate disputes promptly and ensure that Customs procedures do not unnecessarily impede lawful businesses.
The Apapa Area Command said it would sustain the momentum through improved revenue generation, trade facilitation, professionalism and stronger collaboration with stakeholders.
The Command maintained that every legitimate revenue collected strengthens the government’s capacity to implement development priorities and improve the living conditions of Nigerians.
