NCS warns public over fake facebook account impersonating spokesperson

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has warned members of the public against a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating its National Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada.
In a scam alert issued by the Service, the NCS said the account was fake and had been created to mislead and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
According to the Service, the impersonating account does not belong to the Nigeria Customs Service or its spokesperson.
The NCS urged members of the public to rely only on the verified Facebook account of Maiwada, identified by the blue verification badge. It warned that any other social media account bearing his name or photograph should be regarded as fraudulent.
The Service further advised the public to report and block the fake account and avoid engaging with or responding to messages from the impersonator.
It also cautioned members of the public against sending money or disclosing personal information to anyone claiming to represent the Nigeria Customs Service through unverified social media accounts.
The warning is part of efforts by the Customs Service to protect members of the public from online fraudsters exploiting the names and identities of its officials
