Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN, Kano Sub-Region, on August 4, 2026, hosted science students from Government Girls Secondary School, Dukawuya, Kano, on an educational excursion to its Kumbotso 330/132kV Transmission Substation.
The visit gave the students hands-on exposure to electricity transmission operations, helping to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world practice. TCN engineers led the students through the substation, walking them through the electricity transmission process and explaining the functions of key equipment, control room operations, and the safety protocols observed across the transmission network.
The tour also included an interactive session in which students engaged directly with engineers, asking questions and gaining first-hand insight into how power systems are operated and managed.
Officials said the excursion deepened the students’ understanding of Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure while stimulating their interest in careers in science, engineering, and technology. The programme also highlighted the importance of collaboration between industry and academia in nurturing the next generation of technical professionals.
TCN said the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to promoting technical knowledge, engineering excellence, and capacity development among young people. By creating platforms that expose students to real-world power transmission operations, the company said it continues to support the development of a skilled workforce needed to sustain and advance Nigeria’s power sector.
