By Onu Okorie

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced 26 new appointments across 10 federal agencies and commissions, in a fresh round of appointments that saw former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose named chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency REA and Major General Junaid Bindawa appointed chairman of the National Salary and Wages Commission.

According to details of the appointments, Fayose will lead the REA board alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, who were named members and non-executive directors. The agency’s incumbent Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, along with three previously appointed executive directors, complete the board’s membership.

At the National Salary and Wages Commission, President Tinubu appointed eight other officials alongside Maj. Gen. Bindawa. Former Lagos lawmaker Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas was named secretary of the commission, while Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun and Yakubu Umar Barde, representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna states respectively, were appointed commissioners.

Also appointed as members of the commission are Dr Mai Adamu Yau Borno, Ginika Florence Tor Enugu, Engineer Lawrence Okoh Edo and Bello Morenike Iyabode Kogi.

In a related move, Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who had earlier been appointed Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund NLTF, has been redeployed to the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission as secretary.

Other appointments announced by the President include Dr Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc NBET, and Dr Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman/CEO of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.

Engineer Julius Oloro, a former council chairman, was named the new Chief Executive Officer of the Kwara-based National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation NCAM. He replaces the late Dr A.R. Kamal, who died in January.

President Tinubu also constituted the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, appointing Dr Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as chairman. Other board members are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.

At the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, Shuni Muhammad Dahiru was named the new executive secretary, replacing Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund PTDF, in April.

Finally, Gisaor Vincent Iorja was appointed to replace Mathias Byuan as Executive Director, Finance, of the Federal Housing Authority. Byuan had resigned from the position to contest the governorship election in Benue State. Iorja, an economist, legal scholar and academic, currently serves as Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission BSIEC.

The appointments, spanning agencies responsible for electricity, revenue, population data, atomic energy, agriculture, housing, literacy and fiscal oversight, form part of the President’s ongoing reconstitution of federal boards and commissions.
