TCN takes delivery of new Power transformers for Katsina substation project

Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kano Region, has taken delivery of two new 100MVA power transformers for installation at the ongoing 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Katsina.
The transformers arrived on Thursday, July 9, 2026,.
A statement made available to the media by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah explained that it’s part of TCN’s strategic grid expansion project aimed at strengthening the national grid network and improving bulk electricity supply to Katsina State and the wider North-West region.
According to the company, the transformers are critical components required for the completion of the substation. Once installed, tested, and commissioned, they are expected to boost the region’s transmission capacity by an additional 160MW.
TCN said that when completed and energized, the substation will enhance the reliability, flexibility, and overall efficiency of power transmission in the area. It will also significantly increase the company’s capacity to evacuate additional bulk electricity to the Distribution Companies (DisCos) serving Katsina State and its environs.
The Katsina Substation is one of several projects being executed by TCN across the country as part of efforts to drive grid expansion, modernization, and reinforcement of Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure to meet the nation’s growing electricity demand.
