NEITI hails Rafsanjani on historic global transparency Award

Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative NEITI has congratulated the Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre CISLAC and Head of Transparency International Nigeria, Auwal Ibrahim Musa Rafsanjani, on winning the prestigious Transparency International Amalia Award for Individual Professional Excellence.

Rafsanjani received the award during the Transparency International Movement Awards Ceremony held in Berlin on July 1, 2026, becoming the first African to earn the prestigious honour, regarded as one of the highest recognitions within the global Transparency International movement.

In a statement, NEITI Executive Secretary, Musa Sarkin Adar, described the award as a proud moment for CISLAC, Nigeria and Africa’s transparency and accountability community.

According to him, the recognition validates decades of principled advocacy for transparency, accountability and good governance in Nigeria.

“This recognition is a profound validation of decades of principled advocacy for transparency, accountability, and good governance in Nigeria. NEITI joins the nation and the global community in celebrating this well-deserved, historic achievement,” Adar said.

He noted that CISLAC has remained a steadfast partner in advancing NEITI’s mandate of promoting transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s extractive sector, expressing confidence that the international recognition would further strengthen collaboration among NEITI, CISLAC, Transparency International Nigeria and other civil society organisations.

Adar added that the award highlights the growing influence of African voices in shaping global conversations on transparency and the fight against corruption.

He also said Rafsanjani’s recognition celebrates not only his personal commitment but also the resilience of Nigeria’s civil society organisations in promoting institutional accountability and strengthening public trust.

NEITI reaffirmed its commitment to deepening partnerships with civil society organisations in advancing transparency, accountability and good governance in Nigeria’s extractive industries while congratulating Rafsanjani on what it described as a landmark achievement.
