The Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo has empowered over 7,000 women across Sokoto State through the distribution of Sallah relief materials, in a move aimed at strengthening social welfare and supporting vulnerable households.
The intervention, carried out from Monday, 17th to Thursday, 19th March 2026, involved the distribution of essential food items—including rice, pasta, and cooking oil—to beneficiaries in various communities such as Sabon Garin Dole, Boyekai, and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
The initiative forms part of the Minister’s ongoing efforts to cushion the economic challenges faced by citizens, particularly women and low-income families, while enabling them to celebrate the Sallah season with dignity.
The gesture reflects a broader commitment to inclusive governance, poverty alleviation, and community support, in line with people-centred leadership principles.
The intervention also aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government under the leadership of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu which prioritizes social investment programmes and improved living standards for Nigerians.
Under this agenda, significant strides have been recorded in national development, particularly in the areas of social amenities, security, and the construction and rehabilitation of key road networks such as the Sokoto–Illela–Lagos (Badagry) Road, Sokoto–Gusau–Funtua–Zaria Road, and the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano corridor, as well as other road projects across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
“I commend Mr. President very highly for his unwavering commitment to the unity of this nation and for his determination to use infrastructure as a powerful tool to bring Nigerians together,” the Minister stated.
In addition to humanitarian support, the Minister continues to play a vital role in infrastructure development, contributing to critical road projects and other sectors that enhance economic growth and national connectivity.
Stakeholders and beneficiaries have commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, especially in the current economic climate.
Goronyo noted that the intervention complements ongoing efforts by the Sokoto State Government under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Aliyu whose administration has implemented various welfare programmes to improve the lives of citizens.
The Minister also acknowledged the mentorship and leadership of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, whose influence continues to shape his approach to governance and service delivery.
This initiative further underscores the importance of responsive leadership and targeted interventions in improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
