Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, has accepted to lead a new political support organisation mobilising grassroots backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The organisation, Bello Muhammad Goronyo (BMG) Associates for Asiwaju/Shettima 2027, was formally presented to the minister on Wednesday by a delegation of political stakeholders from the seven North-West states, led by Dr. Haris H. M. Jibril.
The group sought Goronyo’s acceptance to serve as its National Convener and Leader, as well as permission to adopt his initials, BMG, as its acronym.
The proposed platform is expected to establish structures across the seven North-West states, including state coordinators and officials responsible for youth and women mobilisation, communications, organisation and coordination across the senatorial districts.
The stakeholders said the initiative was conceived to provide a disciplined and coordinated platform for grassroots mobilisation, promote the achievements of the Tinubu administration and communicate the policies and programmes of the Renewed Hope Agenda to Nigerians.
They cited Goronyo’s previous political responsibilities, including his role in youth mobilisation during the 2023 Presidential Campaign Council and his tenure as Director of Youth Mobilisation for the North-West and later Zonal Secretary of the North-West All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to them, his experience in political organisation, grassroots mobilisation and stakeholder engagement, coupled with his relationships across the region, made him suitable to provide strategic direction to the proposed organisation.
The group also presented a proposed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), which it said would guide its activities, with emphasis on discipline, accountability, loyalty, teamwork, respect for constituted party leadership and responsible political engagement.
Responding, Goronyo commended the stakeholders for the initiative and expressed appreciation for their confidence in his leadership.
He said many of the delegates were people with whom he had worked during previous APC campaign activities, describing their renewed collaboration as evidence of their shared commitment to Nigeria’s development, unity and prosperity.
The minister stressed that effective political mobilisation must go beyond partisan activities to include listening to citizens, understanding their concerns and explaining government policies in a factual and respectful manner.
He urged members of the organisation to particularly engage young people and women, while ensuring that their activities promote peaceful democratic participation and respect for divergent opinions.
Goronyo also highlighted infrastructure development as one of the major areas of the Tinubu administration’s intervention, pointing to major road projects including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Trans-Saharan Corridor, Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Corridor, Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road.
He said the Federal Government’s investments in roads, railways and other transport infrastructure were aimed at improving connectivity, facilitating trade, reducing travel time, creating economic opportunities and strengthening national integration.
According to him, the administration’s achievements should be communicated to Nigerians “in a clear, respectful and factual manner,” particularly to citizens who may not yet fully understand its policies, programmes and reforms.
Goronyo said political mobilisation must be anchored on trust and constructive engagement rather than confrontation, adding that members must understand the aspirations of the people before seeking their support.
He subsequently accepted the leadership responsibility and formally inaugurated the organisation.
“As the Secretary of the Support Groups of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Presidential Campaign Council, we will continue to work with you, mobilise Nigerians and engage our people constructively towards ensuring the successful return of our dear President, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in 2027, Insha Allah,” he said.
The minister charged the new organisation to build an extensive grassroots network across the North-West while maintaining unity, discipline, accountability and inclusiveness.
He further directed its leadership to work within the established APC structure and collaborate with party leaders, officials and other stakeholders in the region.
Goronyo urged the group to ensure fairness in its operations and promote peaceful political participation as it seeks to mobilise support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in the 2027 presidential election.
