By Onu Okorie

Nigeria Customs Service NCS has graduated 50 officers from the three-month Junior Course 25 at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College NCCSC, Gwagwalada, Abuja, with the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, charging them to uphold integrity, sound judgment and national interest in the discharge of their duties.
Adeniyi gave the charge on Friday, August 28, 2026, while speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the graduation ceremony, describing the successful completion of the course as a significant milestone in the professional and leadership development of the officers.
The Comptroller-General stressed that leadership in modern Customs administration required competence, accountability and a commitment that goes beyond routine revenue generation.
According to him, officers must demonstrate fairness, courage and responsibility in responding to the increasingly complex demands of Customs operations.
“Leadership is not defined solely by the rank that you wear, but is demonstrated through competence, fairness, courage and the responsibility you take,” Adeniyi told the graduates.
He urged the officers to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the three-month programme to their various assignments, while placing national interest above personal considerations.
Earlier, the Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Dow Gaura, commended the dedication and commitment of the graduating officers throughout the programme.
Gaura also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the college’s training capacity through institutional upgrades, including the deployment of digital learning tools and the development of strategic training partnerships with the Nigerian Army.
The graduation ceremony featured the presentation of certificates to the 50 officers, while the Comptroller-General presented special awards to the three best-performing participants in recognition of their outstanding performance during the course.
Activities marking the graduation had commenced earlier in the week with a regimental dinner held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
At the dinner, the Deputy Comptroller-General, Suleiman Chiroma, who represented the Comptroller-General, charged members of the graduating cohort to demonstrate vigilance and decisive leadership as they return to their respective assignments across Customs commands.
The graduation of the officers is expected to further strengthen the Service’s leadership capacity as the NCS continues its drive to build a more professional, accountable and responsive workforce.
