Finance Ministry, OAGF train banks on digital revenue platform

The Federal Government has launched a sensitisation campaign to familiarise Nigerian banks with RevOp, a digital platform aimed at modernising public revenue collection and plugging financial leakages across federal agencies.

The initiative was the focus of a workshop organised by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation OAGF in Abuja on weekend, where Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, called on banking institutions to deepen their understanding of the platform and its operational requirements.

Represented by Permanent Secretary for Special Duties Mohammed Danjuma, Oyedele described RevOp as a centralised, real-time digital system that replaces decades of fragmented manual revenue collection processes across federal agencies. “RevOp serves as a critical tool in the government’s drive to improve revenue administration, reduce leakages, and enhance public sector accountability,” he said.

Despite notable progress since the platform’s rollout, with over 70 per cent of federally owned entities now on board, according to OAGF’s Director of Revenue and Investment, Adebayo Adewale — officials acknowledged that limited awareness among bank branches and frontline staff remains a key obstacle. Some banking channels, the minister noted, remain unfamiliar with RevOp’s purpose and the procedures required to process transactions through it.

RevOp Product Manager Idris Dosunmu said the platform unifies billing, payment, and settlement through secure connections, guaranteeing full transparency from bill creation to treasury receipt. “This will ensure that every penny due to the federal government goes into the coffers of the government,” he said.

Officials stressed that the burden of success does not fall on government alone, urging banks to cascade knowledge from the workshop to branch staff, customer service personnel, and tellers who handle transactions daily.
